Rose Society of the Ozarks

roseThe Rose Society of the Ozarks is a non profit organization for the education and the betterment of rose growing.

Created in 2002 as the first botanical garden in Springfield, Missouri's Close Memorial Park, the Rose Garden today displays 160 hybrid tea, grandiflora, floribunda, and shrub roses, all planted in raised beds ringed in native stone.

Sam McGowan, a rose-lover extraordinaire, created this beautiful garden with the help of the Rose Society of the Ozarks. For that first garden, the Jackson & Perkins company donated 120 roses and Theta Steinert of Steinert's Greenhouse & Gardens in Springfield donated 40 roses for the center bed.

Since its creation, Theta Steinert has donated many more roses to the garden and Sam McGowan continues to maintain and improve it today.
